The City of Leicester
Leicester is situated in the heart of England and boasts an exciting, vibrant and diverse City of over 300,000 residents, making it one of the largest cities in the UK.
It’s compact City Centre means that everything is close at hand, from shopping to bars and nightclubs, culture to sports, even boasting 3000 acres of parks and gardens. With the City serving two Universities, there are plenty of venues to suit every taste, plus festivals of every kind taking place each year.
Leicester’s City Centre has undergone a major transformation over the last few years with £60million being injected into all aspects of the City’s cultural and lifestyle sectors. The Shires shopping centre has undergone a major transformation with ½ million square feet of shops and department stores all under one roof. The West end and Braunstone Gate areas are now boasting some of Leicester’s best bars and nightclubs, with fantastic restaurants and cafes. The Phoenix arts centre is to be transformed in to a state of the art performing arts centre featuring film, dance, drama and music, with DeMontfort Hall providing regular music concerts from classical to modern music.
Leicester also has a large selection of sports venues, so whether you are a spectator or a participant, there is plenty to enjoy. Leicester City Football Club has played at the Walkers football stadium since 2002, previously being at Filbert Street for 111 years. The Tigers Rugby Team is one of the most successful England teams, winning the Heineken cup twice and five times league winners; and if neither of these sports take your fancy, Leicester also homes many more successful sporting teams.
